At PM Engineered Solutions, we specialize in creating high-quality molded components that meet exact specifications. Our transfer molding and compression molding services deliver reliable, durable parts for a wide range of industries. From automotive and electrical to appliances and industrial hardware we manufacture precision parts with superior dielectric strength, heat resistance, and dimensional stability.

Compression Molding Services

Compression molding is a process where a measured amount of material is placed directly into a heated mold, and pressure is applied to shape and cure it. This method is ideal for high strength, glass-filled materials and large structural parts where material flow needs to be minimized to preserve fiber integrity. Our team works with thermoset materials like phenolic, epoxy, and melamine to create parts that stand up to demanding applications.

Whether it’s a heat resistant housing for an appliance or a high-strength component for automotive use, our compression molding services deliver parts that meet specifications while maintaining consistent quality. Because of simpler tooling, compression molding results in lower up front  costs. With presses ranging from 25 to 350 tons, we can handle both small and large parts efficiently.

Transfer Molding

Transfer molding involves  placing material in a heated chamber and transferring it into the mold cavity under pressure. This method is perfect for parts with intricate details, thin walls, and or inserts. Our transfer molding process works with the same range of thermoset materials, giving you flexibility in design and performance. Components that require tighter tolerances, make use of inserts, or have complex geometries benefit from this approach. This makes transfer molding an excellent choice for detailed electrical parts, specialized industrial components, and other precision applications.

Comparing Transfer and Compression Molding

While both processes utilize thermoset resins to produce high-strength, heat-resistant components, the choice depends on part geometry and insert requirements.

  • Compression Molding: The preferred method for high-strength structural parts using SMC or BMC. By placing material directly into the open cavity, we preserve glass fiber integrity, resulting in superior mechanical strength. It is the most cost-effective solution for large, thick-walled parts where flash control is less critical.
  • Transfer Molding: The standard for precision insert molding and complex geometries. Because the material is pre-heated and pushed through runners, it flows gently around delicate metal inserts (pins, terminals) without damaging them. This process offers tighter dimensional control and finer detail than compression molding.

Materials and Applications

We process high-performance thermosets engineered for aggressive environments.

  • Phenolics: Excellent hardness and dimensional stability under high heat.
  • Epoxies: Superior chemical resistance and dielectric strength for electrical encapsulation.
  • Melamines: High arc resistance and surface hardness.
  • Diallyl Phthalate (DAP): A specialized thermoset offering high dimensional stability and electrical insulation.
  • Polyester (BMC/SMC): High strength-to-weight ratio for structural industrial components.

Typical parts produced with our transfer molding and compression molding services include:

  • Electrical: High-voltage insulators, switchgear components, solenoid covers, and brush holders.
  • Industrial: Heavy-duty control housings and utility metering components.
  • Appliance: Thermal insulators, and heat-resistant handles

Each part is made with care to meet performance standards while ensuring consistent quality across production runs.
